About Me

My name is Yanira Garcia and I’ve proudly called South Omaha home for over 25 years, growing up in the Upland Park Neighborhood. I am now raising my family in the Hanscom Park area.

I relied on public transportation throughout my high school years at Omaha South High School and periodically during college at UNO. I understand firsthand the important role that reliable, safe, and accessible public transportation plays in our community.

With more than a decade of experience in communications, public relations, and advertising, I am committed to bringing both my personal insights and professional expertise to the Regional Metropolitan Transit Board. As a bicultural and bilingual individual, I will use these strengths to help communicate public transit services in a culturally competent and inclusive way. My goal is to work collaboratively with community members and stakeholders to ensure our transit system is accessible to ALL.

Public transportation is vital for economic growth, equitable mobility, and environmental sustainability—all crucial for building a thriving, vibrant community where everyone has the opportunity to access employment, education, healthcare, and the connections that enrich our lives.

Let’s build a transit system that truly moves us all forward!

Donate to support my campaign

To win a campaign, I need people throughout District 3 to know my name and be familiar with my platform. To do that, I need to continue ordering yard signs, mailers and other advertisements. Thank you for your support!
